George Christ started studying piano at the age of 6 and organ lessons at the
age of 12. His first organ teacher was the organist at First Methodist Church
in San Diego, California. When he was 16, she felt that George was ready to
serve a church. His first church was Trinity Presbyterian Church in Spring
Valley, California.
George started college as a music education major at Trinity University in
San Antonio, but he continued to have a strong emphasis in organ. During his
time at Trinity, he was Student Organist for the university, played at St.
Sophia's Greek Orthodox Church, and at Pilgrim Presbyterian Church. For his
senior year, George transferred to Southern Methodist University in Dallas,
where he completed his bachelor's degree. He became choir director at First
Christian Church in Lancaster. Later he became organist at Greenville Avenue
Christian Church.
Continuing his education at SMU, George pursued a masters degree in music
education and later a doctoral degree from the University of North Texas
in curriculum and instruction. Through it all, George has continued to work
as a church organist. He as played at Christian Churches, Presbyterian
Churches, Methodist Churches, and Episcopal Churches. In 2001, he became
organist and handbell choir director at St. Barnabas Presbyterian Church
in Richardson.
George has a full-time position as Elementary Mathematics Coordinator in
the McKinney Independent School District.
