ST BARNABAS OUTREACH IN VOI, KENYA

ST STEPHEN’S ACADEMY
Motto: Education For Success
Vision: To be an institution of academic excellence in teaching and imparting skills, knowledge and attitude to the pupils based on Christian values.
Mission: To offer wholesome education and mould children with a holistic approach based on Christian values, discipline and genuine teaching to be able to fit and contribute in a dynamic society.
St Barnabas has been involved with the congregation of St Stephen’s Presbyterian Church of East Africa since 1995. George Gitahi was pastor of the church, in the village of Voi, Kenya. In the fall of 1995 George came to visit St Barnabas for six weeks in connection with a PCUSA program called Mission to the USA. Establishing a school was a dream and a goal for George and his congregation at St Stephens. We at St Barnabas were fortunate to be a part of what has become an award-winning education program.
St Stephen’s Primary Academy has grown to an enrollment of 725 students in 2011 and has won numerous academic trophies, including Best Private Primary School in the Region. St Stephen’s opened their Secondary Academy in January of 2011 with an enrollment of 12 students. They hope to build the high school into the same high quality program as the primary school. The goal is to educate students in their award-winning program through the 12th grade. A better education means a higher quality of life for the families of these students.
St Barnabas has provided scholarships, computers, playground equipment, prayers, and financial assistance to St Stephens. St Barnabas has sent members to visit Voi over the years and two visitors from Voi have come to the United States. One goal is to have more members from the St Stephen congregation visit St Barnabas in order to further strengthen our bond.
St Barnabas continues to send financial assistance through donations. We are currently sponsoring primary and secondary students through the Voi Endowment fund. Many people from both congregations communicate with each other on a regular basis.
Small gifts make a big difference when added together. Monetary donations and prayers are always welcome for our friends at St Stephens.
