Children / Youth

The Children and Youth Ministries Committee of St. Barnabas is dedicated to the Christian education and fellowship of the children and youth of the church and the community.

Our Sunday morning nursery care is for infants and toddlers up to the age of 36 months. It is available from 8:30-12:30. The three years through kindergarten children are involved in a Church School curriculum from 9:45-10:40. During the same Church School hour our 1st-6th grade students participate in a Sunday morning learning style known as Workshop Rotation. Students learn in different ways through multiple intelligences through movement, through music, through interpersonal relating, etc. The Workshop Rotation provides an exciting and dynamic approach to Sunday school that gives children a variety of ways to really experience the Bible story. Each story rotation continues for 4-5 weeks and a different aspect of a topic or story is explored though Bible study, geography, cooking, art, science, and drama. Some of the topics have been Communion, Peacemaking, Abraham, Genesis, Advent, Paul, Lent, the Holy Spirit, and many more.

During the worship times at 8:30 and 11:00 pre-k and kindergarten children participate in the SonShine Hour with fun activities and games. Children who are first grade and older are encouraged to attend worship services.

The youth of St. Barnabas, 7th-12th grades, are involved in all aspects of church life. The Sunday morning hour is spent in activities, discussions of scripture, and current issues and events. Sunday evenings are a time for faith exploration, fellowship and fun. We also elect a deacon from among the youth each year to provide care, nurture, and support to the young people of our congregation.

Our church youth participate in a number of camps and gatherings at the presbytery level, which includes other Presbyterian youth from the entire North Texas area, and at the synod level, which includes Presbyterian youth from TX, OK, AR, and LA. These events include Senior High Youth Connection, YouthQuake, Kidquake, summer camps at Gilmont (East Texas) and MoRanch (Hill Country), Synod Youth Workshop in Tulsa, and Triennium at Purdue University. The youth are also involved in a week long summer mission trip the last several years to Juarez, Mexico.

Vacation Bible School is offered for one week during the summer months for pre-k through 6th grade. The 7th-12th graders help with games and recreation.

St. Barnabas has a Christian education program called LOGOS for 1st-12th grade students on Wednesday evenings.
